Teaching Features

  • (1) Integrated Teaching system:
The department offers a distinct integrated teaching system consisting of fully structured information platforms that weave in subfield curricula. The curriculum design is based on student career development; additionally, it provides in-class and online teaching mechanisms. Each teacher is well-equipped with enthusiasm and highly dedicated to teaching.
  • (2) Equal emphasis on theory and practicality:
The department’s program puts the main emphasis on a combination of learning theory and practicality. Students have ample opportunities to apply what they have studied into real-world practice through special projects, cooperative work, corporate internship and other programs. The department gives back to society in the forms of information system development for communities, project reports, journal publication and seminar hosting.
  • (3) Implement domestic perspectives:
Based on the objectives of University Social Responsibility, the department’s courses and seminars are designed to continuously cultivate students’ domestic perspectives. Students have the opportunity to serve society through information technology and contribute their talents.
  • (4) Flexible self-directed learning mechanisms:
In order to enhance classroom learning or to explore subject related content outside the classroom, the department operates and promotes a Special Interest Group (SIG), which aims to encourage both teachers and students to utilize their areas of expertise in developing an extra-curricular mutual learning group.
  • (5) Industry-based subfield curricula and academic programs:
Taking into account modern trends and industry development, two major subfield curricula (Information Management and Decision Science, as well as Information Technology and System Development) are currently planned for the department. In addition, the department also collaborates with other departments to open cross-field learning programs. The program courses are taught based on the expertise of the teachers, and a laboratory is provided to facilitate any hands-on practice. The program also works with other departments to strengthen students’ theoretical concepts and practical operations.

Student Counseling Features

  • (1) Family-like groups and mentors:
Students from different years are divided and formed into family-like groups. Students inside the same group exchange and pass on their learning and experience; they can also exchange this learning experience with students of the same year who are in different groups. A mentor for each group shares information from his or her group through various interactions with each individual student. This enables mentors to provide in-depth counseling and mutual interaction.
  • (2) Teaching assistants:
To answer the need for hands-on experience required in many courses, the department attaches particular importance to the training of teaching assistants to enhance instruction. The teaching assistants use the online digital platform, Moodle, to announce course-related messages, correct homework and inform students of course-related activities. In addition, teaching assistants use multiple media channels such as email, LINE and Facebook to conduct academic tutoring and to stay in contact with students. This teaching assistant network enhances the quality of education for the students.
  • (3) Supplemental teachers:
For students who need to improve their academic performance (for example, repeat students or overseas Chinese students with language barriers), the department employs students with good academic grades in the required subject to provide after-class tutoring. This benefits both the tutors and tutees.
